YouTube Technical Hints

The way the YouTube video player seems to work is, as soon as you start playing a video clip for the first time, the player tries to download as much of the video clip as possible onto your PC, and at a rate faster than you are watching it.   However, sometimes, when YouTube is particularly busy (when the USA is 'awake'), the player will pause for a few seconds to download a little more of the video clip, which can be annoying.  The best thing to do is click the pause button, and let the player download more of the video clip into your PC's memory, and then press play again to continue watching. Once you have played the video clip once, it should play very smoothly the second and future times.

Note that you can see for yourself if the player downloaded more of the video clip than you have watched.  At the bottom of the player, you will see a red line 'growing' from left to right.  The red line indicates how much of the video clip is already in your PC's memory.  If it's grown to be on the right of the little circlular 'button' on the same line that shows your current play position, then you know you are ahead of the game.  However, if the little circle (current play position) catches up to the red line as the video clip plays, you can expect the video to pause play, whilst more is downloaded into memory.
